What is FUT hair transplant?

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) is a method of hair transplantation that involves removing a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the donor area on the scalp and then dissecting the strip into individual follicular units. The follicular units are then implanted into the recipient area, where they will grow into new hair.

The FUT procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and can take several hours to complete. After the donor strip is removed, the area is closed with sutures, which are typically removed after 10-14 days. The harvested follicular units are then carefully implanted into the recipient area using small incisions made by the hair transplant surgeon.

One advantage of FUT is that it allows for a larger number of hair follicles to be harvested in a single session, which can be beneficial for patients who require a significant amount of hair transplantation. However, FUT does leave a linear scar on the scalp, which can be noticeable if the hair is cut short. The scar can be concealed by growing the hair longer or using hair styling techniques.

It is important to note that FUT is a surgical procedure and involves some degree of risk and recovery time. Patients may experience temporary discomfort, swelling, and scabbing after the procedure, and full recovery can take several weeks. It is important to consult with a qualified hair transplant surgeon to determine if FUT is a suitable option for your individual needs and goals.
